ASSOCIATE ARTIST PLAY READINGS
Presented by Checkpoint Theatre
Venue Partner: The Arts House
1 Old Parliament Lane Singapore 179429

Checkpoint Theatre's Associate Artist Scheme nurtures the work of theatre-makers Lucas Ho, Faith Ng, Joel Tan and Shiv Tandan. Across four evenings in the intimate setting of the Arts House Play Den, the Checkpoint Theatre Associate Artists will present dramatised readings of works-in-progress as they continue to be developed for production.

Two different programmes, spread across 4 days, include full-length plays and selections from the Associate Artists monologue project. Come and spend an evening or two with these voices from the next generation of theatre-makers and find out what's brewing at Checkpoint Theatre in the coming seasons!

Admission is free so simply register online at www.ticketmash.sg/checkpointreadings

Synopses

Normal by Faith Ng (full-length play)
A new Literature teacher arrives at a girls' school to find her class of Normal Academic students intractable and rebellious. But what lies behind their misbehaviour? Ng’s play explores the hope and despair of Normal students as they grapple with an unkind system, and lays bare the complex tensions boiling beneath even the most ‘normal’ of schools.

Our Lady of Lourdes by Joel Tan (full-length play)
From a wedding to a funeral, and in between, Our Lady of Lourdes charts two improbable and difficult love stories that transcend age, time and social convention. Tan’s work paints an uncompromising, witty, and moving portrait of love as the most complicated and yet simplest thing in the world.

Monologues by Lucas Ho, Faith Ng, Joel Tan and Shiv Tandan
A relationship mapped by taxicab journeys; a grandmother and her food; finding and losing oneself: the monologues developed under the Associate Artists monologue project present compelling individual voices that, in their very specificity, resonate with us all.
