Humour abounds in The Lioness Roars, a well-known Ming Dynasty satirical comedy that will have you bowled over in your seat with laughter. Featuring outstanding performances by Plum Blossom Award winners Chen Xue Ping and Xie Qun Ying, this Yue opera production is a light-hearted love story about marriage and trust.

One day, Scholar Chen Ji Chang is invited by Su Dong Po on a river cruise to sightsee and compose poems. His domineering wife, the wilful Liu Yue Hong, sends her maid to check on him and to her horror, finds out that they had been in the company of a songstress. Filled with jealousy and anger, she punishes him by making him kneel by the lake.

Su comes to hear about the incident and feels unjust for Chen. He plans to teach Liu a lesson but gets hauled by her to the local authorities instead. Find out how the witty and intelligent magistrate’s wife helps them realise the true meaning of marital trust and love, with just a little ploy.

This refreshing Yue Opera adaptation of a Kun Opera classic has captured many audiences with its simple, elegant stage design and engaging dialogue. Don’t miss your chance to catch one of Yue opera’s rare comedy delights!
