In conjunction with the National Museum of Singapore’s exhibition, A Life of Practice – Kuo Pao Kun, TheatreWorks will present Goh Lay Kuan & Kuo Pao Kun, a performance detailing the life of this pioneering arts couple of Singapore.

Commissioned by the National Museum of Singapore, the performance is based on over 40 hours of oral history interviews from the National Archives of Singapore juxtaposed with seminal texts and plays of Kuo.

Following the ‘sold-out’ work-in-progress in April 2010 as part of the TheatreWorks’, the performance is directed by internationally acclaimed theatre director, Ong Keng Sen. Ong is known for his distinct aesthetic in making documentary performance through collaboration with his performers and extensive research, and helms the full creation of this distilled work.

If Singapore is a city of amnesia and forgetting, Goh Lay Kuan & Kuo Pao Kun asks an urgent question: how do we document the work and lives of Singapore artists whose practice evades easy archival and preservation?
