GRIEG
Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16
BRAHMS
Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73
One of Grieg’s most significant and popular early works, the Piano Concerto in A minor is the epitome of 19th century Romanticism. Greatly commended by Tchaikovsky who noted that throughout the work “prevails that fascinating melancholy which seems to reflect in itself all the beauty of Norwegian scenery”. Associate Professor, Albert Tiu, teams up with the Conservatory Orchestra’s Principal conductor, Jason Lai in this work created at Grieg's summer getaway in Denmark.
The Conservatory Orchestra completes the evening with the lyrical Brahms’ Symphony No. 2, its pastoral energy perhaps inspired by his holiday in Pörtschach, Austria where it was written.
