This Archifest event features four presentations and a round-table discussion on contemporary urban design research in Singapore. Edda Ostertag and Ting Chen from the ETH Future Cities Lab discuss the intersection of spatial and social relationships between inhabitants and businesses in the diverse community of Rochor in Singapore.

Onur Ekmekci and Faye Nixon from the SUTD City Form Lab present their investigations of density and intensity around Bugis Junction. Eugene Tan will discuss his design exploration from AA that aims to mitigate local and global industrial relationships through a new type of inverted urban fabric in Singapore. Chu Hwai Lim will discuss the border-zone between Iskandar Malaysia and Singapore, exploring the spatialisation of the 6 metre-wide borderline into a space that caters to rejected and displaced individuals.

Each of the presentations questions the role of urban design in accomodating vital social networks that are embedded in the rapidly transforming built environment of Singapore.
