With the turfing and conversion of the pools at Yan Kit and River Valley, it marks the end of an era where the swimming complexes were an important part of social and leisure activities Singapore. "As the city population got redistributed into self-sufficient satellite new towns, as increasing number of condominium with sport facilities got developed, and as swimming lost its initial glamour and nation-building agenda, the oldest public pools, not given a chance to reinvent themselves, faded into obsolescence." (Kar Lin, Tan. Singapore Architect Journal 234, "Troubled Waters") The exhibition of these images by Jeremy San are part of a series that document the era of Modernist architecture in Singapore.
