Genre: Orchestra

Country of Origin: Singapore

Founded in 1964, the Fremont Symphony has been hailed as “the best regional orchestra in the Bay Area” and a “stunningly polished orchestra ensemble.”

Maestro David Sloss, in his role as Music Director and Conductor, has led the orchestra for the past 32 seasons through its development into a fully professional symphony.

The Fremont Symphony has always had a strong commitment to young people. For 46 years the Symphony has held Young Artist Competitions, where serious young musicians compete for recognition, cash prizes, and an opportunity to perform with the Symphony at a regular subscription concert.

During the past 37 years, the Symphony has presented free annual Children’s Concerts, providing an opportunity for several thousand school-age children in our community to hear live symphonic music—many for the first time. These concerts feature a guest appearance by one of our Young Artist Competition winners.
An added feature was the Young Composer Competition, where students submitted original works. A handful of these were selected, professionally orchestrated, and performed at the concerts with the winning composers in attendance.

None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the generous contributions from corporate sponsors, foundations, subscribers and other interested individuals.

However, the Fremont Symphony has not been immune to the challenges of the recession and declining corporate/foundation support. We are compelled to take steps to restructure the organization to return as a financially viable and stable entity. These steps include curtailing all ongoing expenses and suspending our 2012-13 season, with the exception of the recital by duo pianists Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Joy Roe on February 24, 2013 and the annual Children’s Concerts in the spring of 2013.

The Fremont Symphony will continue to need financial support from sponsors and donors to re-emerge from this restructuring effort. You can help this succeed by making a financial contribution and by encouraging other fans of great music to support the Fremont Symphony.
We will keep you informed of our progress via this website, and welcome your comments and suggestions.
