The ION Art and UOB present: Create, is birthed through the vision to harmonise visual arts and culinary arts. It revolutionises palette with palate as Chef Ryan Low of The Marmalade Pantry and Chef Matt Leighton of Salt Grill & Sky Bar by Luke Mangan combine haute cuisine with art. The new exclusive dishes were inspired by artworks by UOB Painting of the Year award-winning artists and are offered to diners at ION Orchard from 15 July for at least two months.

In the classic chocolate and toasted marshmallows creation, the Starry Night-inspired cupcakes are topped with mini marshmallows and dusted with a tinge of edible shimmer. Chef Ryan Low drew inspiration from the “Starry, Starry Night” painting and his interpretation of it seeks to mirror how there will always be uncertainties in life, and it is through looking upwards and moving forward that one will find new hope.

Executive Chef Mathew Leighton’s “Let’s have a Burger” depicts how stress is managed and responded to differently by individuals – through different experiences, preferences and cultures. In this open burger, the world Stress is written in bbq sauce between the buns and other ingredients represent choices that go into building the ultimate stress reliever, in the form of a burger. Once the burger is assembled, the bbq sauce signifying stress will be wiped out. Through this dish, he hopes to share that stress can be dealt with by breaking down the sources of stress and looking at the bigger picture.

A selection of paintings from UOB’s four-decade old art collection by UOB Painting of the Year award winners, as well as features of the chefs’ creations, will be exhibited at ION Art Gallery from 20-31 July.
