On the 15th of November, local pianist Congyu Wang will be playing a piano recital at the Alliance Francaise featuring works by Francis Poulenc.

Hailed as a "Complete musician – delicate artist and extremely talented young pianist" Congyu Wang is an internationally renowned pianist, winning acclaim as a recitalist, accompanist and chamber musician.

The Singaporean pianist started the piano at the age of 3. He was accepted with a scholarship to study at the prestigious Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris "Alfred Cortot", where he studied with prominent pianists Jean-Marc Luisada and Odile Catelin-Delangle. He later enrolled in the Schola Cantorum to further his studies with Gabriel Tacchino, the only student of Francis Poulenc. At a young of 18, Wang Congyu has enjoyed phenomenal success in international piano competitions ultimately winning the grand prize in Berlin and Bordeaux. His other prizes include Vulaines Sur Seine, Lagny Sur Marne, Merignac and Paris etc.

At the Chopin International Piano Competition for young pianists in Slovenia, Congyu was awarded 6th Prize. This led to Francois Weigel; a member of the jury who believed he should have won, resigning from the jury in protest. The award-winning pianist has since featured in at least 500 recitals performing in France, England, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Reunion Island, Singapore etc.

Congyu Wang has earned a reputation for giving stunning performances of extremely demanding repertoires. His vast repertoire includes 30 Piano Concertos and the integrals of Chopin and Poulenc. He is a Young Steinway Artist.

Later this year he will be playing a concert tour in Asia releasing his new album 'Charme'.

"Congyu is an extremely talented young pianist with all the artistic and musical gifts to pursue an excellent career." - Gabriel Tacchino
